Tom Rufer photographs people — nothing else. Business portraits and acting headshots, in his own 70m² studio in Dübendorf, Zurich.

You are never left alone in front of the camera. Tom directs every shot — expression, posture, angle, light — until the picture makes a statement. Private set, no spectators.

WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON MISTAKE IN HEADSHOTS?

Trying to look good instead of looking real. The result: a polite smile, empty eyes, a picture that says nothing about you. Whoever sees your headshot decides in under a second whether they believe you. That is why we do not work on your look — we work on your expression, until the picture makes a statement.

HOW LONG DOES THE SESSION TAKE?

Session length depends on the package you choose. Check the duration in the current package description; within that time, you receive clear direction and we work toward the agreed range of images.

I FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA AND NEED GUIDANCE.

That is the most common concern I hear — and exactly why you work with a professional. I direct every detail: expression, posture, angles and light. Your package includes a clear timeframe, with room for calm, focused direction in the private Dübendorf studio.

WHAT FILES DO I GET?

Within 2–3 business days after the session, you receive access to a private online proofing gallery. There you can review all color-corrected shots and select your favorites for master retouching. Alongside the gallery, you receive a direct download link to save all successful session images in full high resolution. Your finalized master retouches are delivered in maximum resolution, fully prepped for print, web, casting platforms, and agency submissions.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Bring a suitcase. When you arrive, we go through your options together and decide what works with which backgrounds. Layering — jacket over shirt, for example — adds depth and range. If you wear glasses, we check reflections (easy to fix in post). Bring everything clean and pressed.

CAN I BRING SOMEONE WITH ME?

Absolutely. Bring a friend, partner, or colleague for support. The studio is private and spacious enough. Some people feel more relaxed with company — it is entirely up to you.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

Neugutstrasse 88, Dübendorf, in the Jumbo building, 4th floor. Plenty of free parking. The studio is climate-controlled at 21°C year-round, with cold drinks available. You will not sweat through your wardrobe.
